Four (4) years of increasingly responsible traffic signal construction, maintenance, and/or repair experience, and equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Additional college coursework, specialized certifications or supplemental training in the electrical trades, traffic signal maintenance and construction, or a related field is desirable. Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Extensive knowledge of automated signal control system operations and characteristics; principles and practices of traffic signal and communications design; fiber optic cable, optical transmitting equipment and components; basic electrical circuits; basic and advanced electrical theory; types of underground facilities for traffic signals and their operation; traffic signal equipment; closed circuit television cameras; estimating and scheduling traffic signal infrastructure construction and maintenance projects; basic filing, inventory and record keeping procedures.
